Of an Urban Nature

October 28 - November 13, 2016

Organized by artist collective +1+1, “Of an Urban Nature” is an exhibition speaks to a variety of issues concerning artists who have had long practices in greater NYC. Some of the artists in this show mine their creative inspiration from the urban hive and landscape, others live in the city but frequently gain insight from nature and have created a hybrid visual vocabulary. Others still have left the city to live in more rural settings but acknowledge and appreciate the mark of the metropolis on their work.

An experiment in co-curation, the six founding members of the collective have each invited another artist and those in turn have each invited one more artist to participate. The exhibition includes a total of 18 artists exhibiting sculpture, painting, ceramics, works on paper, textile works, performances, projected video – all of which together creates an unexpected yet cohesive and dynamic take on what it means to balance urbanity and the natural environment.
